Sporting Alfas batted first and lost no time putting runs on the board, scoring freely to reach 106/1 off 15 overs. Opener Faran Afzal hit a rapid 57 before retiring, and newcomer Simon Barker (45) was also in the runs. Another newcomer from Pinatar, Paul Hennessy, contributed a classy 51, and accompanied by Ravi Panchal (45), increased the scoring rate to 8 per over, getting the hosts to an imposing 240/6 off 30 overs.
The Ibiza bowlers tried hard to stem the flow of runs against a strong Alfas batting side, but all conceded runs, with Prentice (2), Browne (1), Gordon (1) and R.Parmenter (1) in the wickets.
Ibiza began their innings, and in a reversal of the situation the day before, were always up against it, facing a pacey Alfas bowling attack, including several Spanish one day players. After 15 overs they were on a shaky 34/4, but eventually struggled to 118 all out, with the consistent Prentice (31), skipper Sam Gooda (20) and Amos adding some runs in the second half. The hosts’ fast bowlers were a handful to face on a bouncy pitch, and opener Ken Johnston even received a blow to the head for his efforts! All their bowlers picked up wickets, notably Bashir (2), Panchal (2), and Perman, Hennessy, and Brown getting one each.
As always, thanks go to Kevin Laundon and Geoff Evans for their club’s hospitality and welcome on this long standing annual visit to Albir, and we look forward to seeing them back on the slower Ibiza pitch in 2020!
