TVCC batted first and scored steadily at 4 runs per over, facing accurate bowling from Ibiza, and thanks to good innings from Nick Yeo (39), supported by Skipper Sean Beynon (27), and a rapid 23 from Aussie Dave Maplestone, they finished on a par score of 140/8. This was also thanks to 4 dropped catches and some rusty fielding from Ibiza, which proved crucial at the end. For the hosts, bowlers S.Hadlow (2), J.Dudding (1), P.Slater (1), newcomer Rory Thomson (1) and M. Amos (1) were economical and got wickets.
Ibiza began their innings by losing a wicket in the first over, but then Shahid Hanan (21) and C.Prentice (13) consolidated to see off tight spells from TVCC’s opening bowlers. However, their lack of match practice showed with not enough singles being taken when possible, to keep the score moving along. Thus Ibiza were on a below par 47/2 off 14 overs, with the run rate climbing, when Skipper Sam Gooda came in. He immediately upped the scoring rate with a typically robust 44, and was supported by R. Parmenter (26) to get the target within range, but was then well caught on the boundary. This slowed the rate again, and despite a useful 14 from J.Harvey, the visitors’ all rounder Nick Yeo bowled a tight last over, with only 1 run scored and 2 wickets falling to leave Ibiza short by 7 runs.
TVCC bowlers Mark Williams (3), Nick Yeo (2), and Dave Maplestone (1) contributed to the wickets. This is the third last over finish between the two sides, with TVCC pipping Ibiza each time, so we look forward to reversing this trend on their next visit!
