LNZCC skipper Richard Brooks put Ibiza in to bat, and they found scoring hard against the wide variety of seam bowling from the visitors. Thus Ibiza struggled to 46/4 off 15 overs, with only local Kiwi Chris Prentice (28) looking solid. But wickets continued to fall with the hosts slumping to a precarious 75/9, and 8 overs still to go, when last wicket pair Robin Parmenter and Mike Amos came together. They managed to bat out the overs, with the latter scoring a crucial 42 not out in an unbeaten 10th wicket stand of 60 runs, which allowed Ibiza to close on a defendable 135/9.
The visitors used 8 bowlers, with the experienced Sam Martin taking 2 wickets and the others sharing the rest, while their standard of fielding was as high as ever and maintained constant pressure on the batsmen.
LNZCC then batted and faced the same type of accurate bowling from openers Paul Cruttwell (4/14) and Paddy Slater (1/24). They fell to 29/5 and looked down and out, but once again the game turned! Batsmen Brogan McCulluck (60) and Nick Toulas (21) struck numerous boundaries in their 78 run stand, and reached 107/5, with only 29 runs required off 13 overs to win. They then fell in consecutive balls, followed by 2 more wickets, so that on 113/9, any result was possible! Last batsmen Brooks and Robertson added 11 runs, but it was star Ibiza bowler Amos who broke their defiance, fittingly getting the last wicket, enabling Ibiza to win an excellent contest by 11 runs.
For Ibiza, along with their opening bowlers mentioned, R. Parmenter (3) and M. Amos (2) contributed to the wickets.
