Ibiza batted first again, and openers Paddy Mills (55) and Shahid (14) set a solid platform with the score on 63/1 off 15 overs. When the former was well caught in the deep, skipper Gooda continued scoring runs with a bustling 33, but wickets kept falling against the visitors’ accurate bowling. Ibiza finished on an under par 149/9, thanks to Surrey bowlers John Hall (3), Barry Hall (2) and Chris Evans (2).
Surrey Seniors batsmen Steve King (41) and Chris Evans (21) got them going well, supported by Ken Tushingham (13), Andy Stokes (23) and Peter Fielding (14), and at 109/4 off 20 overs, they only needed 41 off 10 overs to win. However, they stuttered again, losing several quick wickets to fall to 145/8 and needing 5 runs off the last over. This became 3 off the last ball and, in a tense finish, batsman Hall squeezed a boundary through mid wicket to seal another win for Surrey Seniors!
Ibiza bowler Amos (3) had the most success, supported by Mills (1), Slater (1) and Thomson (1), but once again Ibiza leaked too many extras, and, despite a better fielding performance, this proved crucial in both results against an experienced and sporting group of league cricketers.
Many thanks go to tour organisers Roly Walton and Roger Jarvis for bringing the largest group of cricketers, supporters, umpires and scorers ever seen to visit Ibiza cricket club and enjoy the other attractions of the white isle! Everyone was treated to exciting games going to the last over, followed by social get togethers afterwards, exactly how it should be! Ibiza hope to welcome them back in the future!
