Ibiza CC vs SACC (Sporting Alfas, Albir)
28/04/18 35 overs per side
Ibiza (141/9) beat SACC (137 all out) by one wicket
SACC batted first and struggled at first to adapt to the slower, less bouncy astroturf pitch at Sant Agusti. Openers Jake Sunderland (18) and Ben Fletcher (12) threatened to settle in however, before both departing in quick succession. The task of increasing the scoring rate then fell to returning Alfas 1st team player Jamie Roper, who duly obliged with a fluent and aggressive 56 that pushed the visitors' score to 111/4 by the 20th over. There were still 15 overs left to set a competitive score, but the Ibiza bowlers kept up the pressure and wickets continued to fall, SACC finally finishing on 137 all out in the 28th over. The Ibiza bowlers all performed well, notably Mike Amos (4/13) and Chris Prentice (2/5), with Jonathan Dudding contributing 2 wickets and Steve Hadlow one.
The hosts then batted and moved slowly to 30/3 off 11 overs, thanks to accurate bowling from the visitors. However, the experienced Andy Holmes then increased the innings' tempo with a brisk 40, and when he fell, skipper Sam Gooda continued with a well struck 41. When he finally departed, Ibiza were in fact on 130/7 and only needed 8 runs to win. But SACC were not going to make it easy, so Ibiza inched to 136/9 and it was only a difficult dropped catch that allowed them to score the tying run! Then, in a tense finish, the match ended with 4 byes in Ibiza's favour, the hosts scraping home by 1 wicket in 31 overs!
The visitors' bowlers did well to almost the snatch the win with a low score to defend, all rounders Jake Sunderland (3/12) and Jamie Roper (2/6) standing out. They were ably supported by veteran John Braithwaite and youngster Kieran Perman, who contributed 2 wickets each, and Darren Walker one.
