35 overs per side
It was Ibiza's turn to bat first today, and, after a watchful start to see off the opening bowlers, skipper Sam Gooda (38) and Ken Johnston (61) upped the scoring rate with a solid 86 run stand, partly helped by SACC skipper Mark Perman bringing on his slow bowlers, plus several dropped catches by his team. Ibiza then lost several wickets but Stuart Browne once again stepped in with a useful 27 not out, supported by Jeremy Parmenter with several boundaries in his 26 not out, allowing Ibiza to finish on a competitive 192/4 off 35 overs.
Of the SACC bowlers Mark Perman stood out with 2/18, with Alfie Court and Tim Aims getting a wicket each as well.
The SACC innings began with a couple of quick wickets falling, but then Tim Aims (45) and Kieran Wood (34) benefitted from several lives to increase the scoring and, at 108/3 with 83 required off 14 overs, anything was possible. The hosts continued to score rapidly, with the evergreen Geoff Evans (26) and Mark Perman (24) bringing the target down, supported by cameos from Jamshad (14) and George Metcalfe (13), while Ibiza's fielding and bowling began to tire. Thus SACC needed 7 off the last over, then 1 run off the last ball for victory, but the ball was hit back to the bowler who promptly ran the batsman out, ensuring the first ever tied match in the long history between these two teams! Of the Ibiza bowlers, S. Browne (2/38) and J. Parmenter (3/32) had the most success, with R.Parmenter, C. Prentice and J. Leighton contributing wickets.
Well done to both teams for such an entertaining and competitive match, and thanks especially to Sporting Alfas,as ever, for welcoming Ibiza back for another year.
